Welcome to what amounts to the "back
room" of Kendra's office. This is a collection of articles about things
like expressing concern for a friend with HIV, or employment discrimination and
stigma.
This is the place to find positive
messages on bumper stickers (free with a quick download), and a short-cut to the
expanding inventory of Positive Outlook t-shirts, sweatshirts and other stuff.
Like we've said elsewhere, this is not an
ordinary law firm. We value the trust of our clients and colleagues and the
judges before whom we appear, and we work without compromise to earn it. But we
prefer not to take ourselves as seriously as we do the needs and concerns of our
clients. Work can be fun, life can be better, manners can be good, and
everything else is fair game.
HIV
and AIDS make people nervous. And people who are nervous often react
quickly, and without thinking..... Here are some common sense ideas on
how to react when someone you care about tells you that they are living
with HIV.
How
secure is your personal closet door? Even if you think you aren't
"in a closet," things can happen at work that might make you
wonder. Here are some thoughts on handling problems when your private
life becomes an issue at work.
Bumper
stickers with attitude have been an irreverent part of our strategies to
end HIV stigma by putting HIV/AIDS in front of people who wouldn't
otherwise think about it. Nothing like plastering an opinion on the back
of your car to get an idea in front of people!
News
releases from Michigan Advocates Exchange and Kendra S. Kleber &
Associates PLLC give a sense of how we got here, literally. Bulletins
about changes in Social Security disability law and the rules pertaining
to people who are disabled by HIV/AIDS are posted here, as well.
Among
the goofiest ideas that Kendra has come up with was the notion that
somebody other than her parents and her nephews would wear a sweatshirt
with the MAX logo on it. Still, it is quite possibly the best logo ever
created (thanks, T!) and as a living monument to the people who created
MAX, who worked and volunteered and rooted for MAX, and the clients
served by MAX - especially those who have passed - Kendra won't let this
logo go. Click here to go to the MAX store where you can choose from
t-shirts, sweatshirts, mouse pads, calendars - all sorts of stuff - with
the MAX logo or a picture called "End AIDS Now" by renowned
artist Charles Alexander, donated in perpetuity to MAX. (Proceeds from
these sales will be used to pay MAX's final bills, and when that's done,
will be donated to organizations of uppity, impatient activists who are
politely raising cane in the finest MAX tradition.)
Everybody
needs a Positive Outlook! Click on the logo to shop a selection of
unique, literate, intelligent wearable designs that you won't see on
everybody else on the street, and get your own Positive Outlook! These
designs are positive and affirming messages for and about the gay,
HIV-positive and constitutionally-concerned communities. This is Kendra
at her most uppity.
This is a blank
authorization for Kleber & Associates clients to download and print,
if needed. Nothing spectacularly interesting for anybody else, though.
This is an Adobe-readable PDF file, one page of instructions and two
pages of real document.

No, these links aren't legal advice. These are
websites that are interesting, entertaining and useful. We're not saying
they'll help your case, or even help your afternoon. We think they're
useful, but you might not.

"Kicking the Anthill" is a San Antonio,
Texas-based radio talk show hosted by Kendra's kid brother, Drexel. He
says, "Kicking the Anthill speaks to the issues and topics that are
on the minds of American parents today - from politics to pop culture;
from personalities to possibilities. KTA is about asking yourself what
you believe and why you believe it and learning to defend those very
beliefs. 'Kicking the Anthill' means doing the right thing even when it
is hard."
And check this out, from Kendra's other kid
brother, Jordan, in Portugal:
"Welcome to Lisbon! You'll soon feel at home in one of our family's
four historic properties, hidden in this quiet little neighborhood in
the very heart of Lisbon."
